Customizing the main menu

To customize your bot's main menu, follow the steps below:

Go to your personal account on our website and select the "Message Templates - Main Menu" section.

 

 

Select the bot channel you want to customize the menu for. For example, select the "WhatsApp" channel to customize the bot menu for that channel.

 

Interact with menu commands by using sections as folders or by viewing messages in their entirety. To add a new command, click the "Add" button in the upper-right corner of the page. You can also use the Add to Section button to add a command as a child of the selected item. The Edit buttons are used to edit existing commands. 

After creating a new command, you will need to select the section to which it will be linked. This is called the "parent menu". For all bot commands, the parent menu should be "Main menu".

If you do not specify a parent menu, the command will be inactive.

 

A Message from user or Alternative message is a command that activates a bot menu item in text or numeric form.

For example, for the command to be triggered by entering the number 9, you must specify 9 in the "Message from user" field. If the command should be triggered by entering 09, then 09 should be specified in the "Alternative messages from the user" field.

 

To make the command inactive, you must remove the text from the "Message from user" field, then users will not be able to use it.

Reply is a field for entering the text that will be sent when a user writes the command you created. In addition to text, you can add emojis and format the text in three different ways.

 

The «Variables» subsection allows you to add custom (created by you) variables or standard variables from Altegio to the text. The functionality of variables is described in more detail in a separate article of the knowledge base.

You can also attach files such as pictures, videos, audio, and PDF files to the menu item using the «Choose files» button.

A bound function is a function that is activated when a menu item is selected. If you only need an information displayed to customers, you do not need to select an anchored function. You can read more about the available bound functions in a separate knowledge base article.

 

Description is a field that is visible only to you or your employees in the project settings. In it, you can describe the purpose of the command or simply specify its service name. This parameter does not have to be filled in.

 

!! It should also be noted that the bot functions only when you enable the bot in the communication channel settings. If the bot is disabled, the bot commands will be inactive, even if the settings are correct.
